How Modern Day Technology Can Work Against Us

We all have twenty four hours in a day, so why is it that some people manage to fit so much in to their day, while others struggle to do the same amount in several days. We all have different methods to organise our time, personally I have always worked with a daily list, as each task is completed I will cross it off.
One tip is to put a few extra tasks on the list and if you manage to complete these as well as your main list then treat these extras as a bonus, or a couple less things to do the following day.It can be very satisfying to know you are ahead of the game by just doing that little bit more each day.
Sometimes we also need to look at areas where we are wasting our time. I run a small one man business and recently I realised how much time I was spending in the morning reading emails. I would arrive at my office, get a coffee, sit down at my computer & start going through the messages. Of course this is an important job, there may be orders or enquiries to deal with, but we all know there is also a lot of non-urgent stuff in there too, a message from a friend, a joke or funny attachment, following a link that can then send you off surfing the net, time will really get eaten up if you are not careful.
So now I only deal with the important business stuff, the rest can wait until lunchtime or in the evening when I'm relaxing at home, this has probably saved me another hour every day.
Getting in to work 30 minutes earlier each day is another great way to use your time well. I started doing this when I realised my car journey was actually quicker because I was getting on the road before the parents taking their children to school and way before all the 9-5 workers hit the road, as well as arriving at the office earlier my journey was also less stressful missing the traffic jam, so I felt fresher and ready to face the day ahead.
The telephone can also be a great time waster, keep conversations short and to the point this will save you lots of time in your day, the same goes for text messages. Most new technology is designed to make our lives easier, but if not used wisely it can also take up too much time, we are all probably suffering with information overload in this modern world and most of us need to cut back on our thirst for it. Always remember the technology is there to give us more quality time, not to take it away.
